When asked about his improved performance on the court, Zhou believed it was not because his skills had gotten better, but because he had become accustomed to a more physical and intense level of play. “When you play more in the more competitive leagues and get used to the game there, you’re in a different shape when you’re on the pitch against Australian players. You can handle physical contact better. It’s very important to me,” Zhou said. “There is very limited room for players in the national team to improve their game. Your form and adaptability to the physical game will determine your performance in international competitions.”
The Chinese team lost to Australia for the second time in the World Cup qualifiers.
